On-street parking
Most side roads in North Oxford have residential priority and strictly enforced time restrictions. At weekends; you need to read the information signs in each street carefully before parking. To avoid Oxford’s £70 Traffic Filter penalties (see below) you need to approach the on-street parking in St Giles from the North. The Park and Ride services (see note below) provide close access to the church from the North, South and West. If you want to drive and then pay to park in St Giles’ Street, (see below) you should always enter from the North which will mean going around the Ring Road to the A34/A44 interchange and then down Woodstock or Banbury Roads.
Exemption permits to pass through traffic filters
Oxford and Oxfordshire Residents who have obtained permits to pass through the Traffic Filters are not affected by restrictions if they have enough exemption passes left (100 in a year). Oxfordshire County Residents may apply for 25 exemption passes. If you don’t have access to these passes, you are restricted by Traffic Filters which levy a £70 Penalty. Permits do not allow travel through Oxford High Street and other locations which are restricted by Bus Gates. From the North (A34/A44)
Driving
To avoid Oxford’s £70 Traffic Filter charge, approach from the North via Banbury or Woodstock Roads. Other routes will involve a £70 Bus Filter charge. You can park in St Giles’ Street during the day for £15 (2 hours). An evening parking ticket from 6:30 is £7.60. 1, 2 or 3-hour tickets purchased with the expiry time of 6.31 pm or after are valid for the evening period. There is no access to The Westgate Multi-Storey from the North.
Park and Ride
The simplest and recommended solution for out of town visitors from the North is to use the Stagecoach Bus 7 from the Water Eaton Park and Ride which runs back at 22:17 on Saturdays. It drops off and picks up at the Keble Road stop in Banbury Road next to the church. The Pear Tree Park and Ride 300 service returns at 21:58 and later and comes down on the Woodstock Road which is on the other side of the church. It is equally convenient though it is slightly further to walk from the church to the bus stop. The stops are shown on the map below.
From the South (A34)
There is no driving route at all available from the South (Abingdon) to St Giles’ or to the Westgate Car Park before 7:00pm. If you come from the South (A34), the Redbridge Park and Ride 300 bus 800, 900 will take you to the Radcliffe Observatory quarter or Keble Road next to the church avoiding the congestion charge. If you try to approach the Westgate Car Park along Thames Street from the South (Abingdon Road) before 7:00pm you will have to pay a Penalty Charge of £70 (see below).
From the East (A40)
If you are coming from the East on the A40, the Thornhill Park And Ride offers a 400 bus to the City centre (Carfax) and it’s then a 12 minute walk to the church along Cornmarket. As an alternative you can take the 400 bus through to the back entrance of the Westgate and swap to a nearby 300 service for the rest of the journey to the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter to save walking or 800 or 900 to Keble Road which is closer.
If you want to park at or near St. Giles, travel on the Ring Road to the North (sign posted as Cheltenham) and come down through Woodstock or Banbury Roads to St Giles’ Street. There is no route through the town.,
From the West (A420)
By car to Westgate Multi Storey
You can get access to the multi-storey car park in the Westgate shopping centre from the West along Botley Road. From the Westgate it is either a 20 minute brisk walk across town or you can take the 800 or 900 (towards Summertown – stops at Keble Road) or 300 to reach the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter. Service 6 (stop E3) is also useful.
Park and Ride
The 200 service runs from Seacourt Park and Ride to Magdalen Street (Randolph Hotel) and you can then walk along St Giles Street to the church at the end by the War Memorial. There is no driving route available to out of town visitors in cars from the West to St Giles’ without passing through a £70 Traffic Filter. However, vans, motorbikes, mopeds, scooters and lorries, can go through the traffic filters at all times and are not charged.

Disabled access
Our South door has a fixed ramp which allows wheelchair access. Please advise us in advance of any special requirements and try to arrive in good time so that we can organise access and location for you. Space is limited; it’s helpful if you can let us know in advance so that we can move furniture to allow us to reserve access and wheelchair seating for you. Wheelchair access to the level entrance at the North door from Woodstock Road may be restricted by the band’s vehicles. Parking outside or near the church is sometimes possible using disabled parking permits.
The toilet inside the church is certified as being suitable for disabled use. although the one we sometimes use for concerts in the adjacent Church Rooms building is not.
